Home Blog Swing with style: How to dress for a swing dance party

A swing party is not a fancy dress ball - but neither is it a jeans-and-hoodie disco. Clothing plays a role, especially because it is an expression of music, movement and community. Nevertheless, there is no right or wrong. If you dance swing, you should feel comfortable - and at the same time celebrate the flair of the time. Here are a few tips on how to dress stylishly and relaxed for a vintage dance night.

💃 For dancers - inspired, not dressed up

Dresses & SkirtsSwing dresses with an A-line or circle skirts that swing along are popular. Knee-length is practical for dancing.

TrousersHigh-waist with a wide leg - e.g. Marlene trousers - are not only stylish, but also super flexible.

ShoesFlat dance shoes with leather soles or special swing shoes offer grip and glide at the same time.

AccessoriesHair bands, red lips, subtle vintage jewellery - small accents make a big difference.

🕺 For dancers - casual with class

TrousersChinos or trousers with a bit of room to move are ideal. No stretch denim - you want to be able to twist, bend and jump.

Shirts & bracesShort-sleeved in summer, with a waistcoat in winter. Braces are a classic - but not a must.

ShoesLeather sole or rubber sole, flat, comfortable.

AccessoriesCap, pocket square or bow tie - anything goes, nothing is a must.

👥 Think gender-free

Swing dance is creative - even when it comes to clothing. Many dancers freely combine masculine and feminine elements. Wear what you like and what you can move well in.

📸 The look is part of the atmosphere

Vintage clothing supports the flair of the music - and also makes the photos more beautiful. But more important than the look is always the togetherness. Come as you feel comfortable. If you enjoy styling: go for it. If not - that's fine too.

Swing dance thrives on expression, movement and individuality. Clothing is part of it, but not a dress code. Let yourself be inspired by the swing era - and find your own dance style, also in terms of fashion.
