100 years and still young; that is the sound of Jean Baptiste ‘Django’ Reinhardt. When I listen to Electro Swing, it often reminds me of him, the great talent, who started at the age of 12 to play banjo. After a severe accident, which partly disabled his left hand, he trained hard to continue to play guitar with his own technique. With success! In 1934, when he was 24, he started his long career with the Quintette du Hot Club de France. He died in 1953, only 43 years old. At 23 January was his centenary.
Because of that and because I like Electro Swing too and because of he sounds so young I’ll play Django Reinhardt. For example Daphne or Blue Drag, also Minor Swing and Oh Lady be Good and for Balboa-Afficionados I Got Rhythm.
The next occassion for that will be Saturday, 3 April at the Istherehop-Party A Quantum of Swing at SwingFLOOR Silbando with Dai Kimoto and the Swing Kids (http://www.musicplay.ch/).
You’ll find even more Django Reinhardt at the 28th Cully Jazz Festival from 9. to 17. April. For more infos see http://www.cullyjazz.ch/de/ausgabe-2010/presse-2010/?cHash=6847ac9688.
